Thank you all again for your super helpful reports on The Student Voice! We do listen!
Over the course of the Lent term, concerns were raised about the following and the actions taken are outlined below.
1. Concerns related to safety in toilets – including broken locks, behaviour and vaping
The Estates team have fixed all broken locks and facilities over the Easter break. Please do continue to report any future issues so we can get them repaired quickly.
In terms of vape alarms, the use of these is being reviewed across the site with all being serviced to ensure effective operation and additional ones being added to Mills Centre and Dining Hall toilets.
Regarding behaviour, where we were able to identify individuals we have done so and sanctioned pupils accordingly. We have also increased staff patrols and duties. Please do remember toilets should be a safe space for everyone.
2. Concerns about the Dining Hall and lunches
We are in the process of adding more water taps in the dining hall in response to your feedback, and the food committee met with Mr Scott last term to discuss the menu choices. We have a new Head of Catering this term who looks forward to continuing this work.
3. Academic matters
Staff have been reminded about homework timetables to ensure that homework is set on the correct evening and isn’t too long.
Some pupils raised questions on here about staff using AI to create resources. To be clear, this is allowed as long as staff have checked for accuracy and that the resource is effective, and that teachers should be open about when and why AI has been used. Do talk to teachers about it!
There were a couple of questions about the new Year 10 course which is now underway. A letter went home to explain some aspects which should have answered any questions. We look forward to your feedback on the course.
