Dear all,

Thanks again to those of you submitting concerns via The Student Voice page.

Concerns that have come in since half term are summarised below, along with actions so far:

1. Toilets

Safety and comfort in toilets continues to be an issue. This had included lights going off quickly when in there as well as safety due to large number of pupils using them as social spaces which can be very intimidating to pupils simply wanting to use the toilet.

So far, we have notified the estates team to look into the lighting, and we are also installing vape alarms to detect smoke from vaping. In addition, a group of Year 12 and 13 pupils are leading a pupil campaign to improve behaviour in the toilets via posters and assembly notices, so do look out for these and think about how you can be part of the solution.

2. Chewing Gum

Pupils have noticed that there is a lot of gum under desks and that this is unfair for staff to have to clean this up. Pupils would like each other to not chew gum in school – remember that it is banned in school anyway – and think about the consequences of sticking it under desks or discarding it on the floor. Let’s all work to make our classrooms and school environment a tidy and clean place to be.

3. Corridors

Pupils have reported that corridors, especially at the top of CB, can become very busy with lots of pushing and shoving, making it unsafe and intimidating. We have asked staff to monitor this and will be displaying posters to remind pupils of the correct side to walk up and down the stairs.

Thanks again, and keep telling us where feels safe and where doesn’t!
