Thank you again to all those of you who have continued to use The Student Voice to express your views on how we can make the school site safer and a more comfortable place to be for everyone in our community. Please do continue to pass on these concerns, and remember that these reports are anonymous.
You can also use The Student Voice to confidentially report any concerns you have about your own safety or wellbeing, or that of a peer, so please do use the ‘Need to Talk?’ tab if you have anything you would like personal support with.
This term, there have been a number of comments about two areas in particular and below you can find out what we have done about these:
1. GB/SBR Corridor and CB stairs. A number of you have reported that this corridor can become very busy and that there can be quite a bit of pushing and shoving which makes pupils (especially younger ones) feel uncomfortable and unsafe. To address this, we have taken the following steps:
- Teachers with lessons in GB/SBR rooms should allow pupils to enter the classroom as they arrive; there is no space for waiting in the corridor there and this will help reduce congestion.
- Tutors and teachers should aim to release pupils a minute before the bell goes for the end of registration or a lesson in order that they have time to vacate before the next pupils begin to arrive
- Form Tutors of Year 7 might also stagger the release of Year 7 pupils from registration and tutor time to avoid congestion
- Along the SBR/GB corridor and down the CB stairs, pupils should walk on the left. Signage is being improved for this.
- Pupils should avoid pushing to get through and should instead wait for any congestion to clear.
Please do hold your part of the bargain in this (I.e. no pushing and walking on the right) and please do give us further feedback on The Student Voice to let us know if this is working.
2. Dyne House Entrance. A number of Sixth Form pupils, especially those with House rooms in Dyne House, have asked whether they can use this entrance (rather than CB) in the mornings in order to make their journey time easier.
Having discussed with our security teams, we have decided to allow this on a trial basis. From Monday 20th March, any Sixth Form pupil who is clearly wearing their lanyard outside/on top of any coats/jumpers will be permitted to use Dyne House entrance from 8 – 8.30am. Those who arrive after 8.30am will need to enter via Charter Building as usual to sign in as late.
Pupils will not be permitted entry if their lanyard is not clearly visible and worn on their person.
